can see by the sidebar to your left there are a number
of ways to quit smoking. NRT's, nicotine gum,
patches, etc. or drugs. Cold turkey maybe using
some quit smoking tips. Hypnosis, laser therapy,
herbs, and so on. Before you choose you may want
to know more about the statistics on how well they work
- these ways to quit smoking..
I'll tell you up front you're going to hear some discouraging
statistics. But at the same time you'll also hear about

Let's start with the Center's for Disease Control.
The CDC site says you have a 50% chance of failing to
quit smoking cigarettes. Actually their positive spin
is "half of adult smokers have quit, so you can
too."

Before you decide which of all the way's to quit smoking
you want to try, you need to know that all "standard"
ways to quit smoking (including those listed above) come with
a warning. "Expect to struggle against the urges,
craving, and emotions (and all the rest) to some extent."
There is a way to avoid those problems but it's not a "standard"

- National Health Institutes sites tells us about a study
where 126 people who tried to quit a second time with nicotine
replacement therapy, gum, patches, etc. and 98% failed!
- PR Web release article headline "Are nicotine weaning
products a bad joke?" the article was about a study
review published in Tobacco Control that combined and averaged
nicotine replacement therapy studies - 93% of nicotine patch
& gum participants were smoking again within 6 months!
- A study of the California Tobacco Surveys of 1992, 1996
and 1999 concluded that nicotine replacement therapy's were
"no longer effective in increasing long-term
successful cessation...".
(Was it ever? How could it go from effective to no longer
effective?)
- The National Institute on Drug Abuse site tells us "less
than 7 percent of smokers who try to quit achieve more than
1 year of abstinence...(and)...most smokers relapse within
a few days of attempting to quit."
So now you're up on what to expect from the "standard"
ways to quit smoking.
And if you try to quit smoking using one of these "standard"
ways to quit smoking you may well succeed. People do. Every
day. Although very few. But still you have a chance.
